So getting my perspective as a gay man, and going back into my childhood, they really do take all of that into account. It's one of the most diverse writers' rooms I've ever been a part of. That's always something you have an eye on, particularly as a gay actor.

They're very collaborative over there and they always ask me into the writers' room at the beginning of the season, as they start writing. Yes, I play the "gay friend", but they fleshed out my character, Elijah, on Girlsin a way that made him a human, and not just a funny sidekick.

Matthew MacDell was never supposed to be the best character in Big Mouth. It's really cool to see how many different voices and points of view that they put into that show, because I feel like representation is obviously very important to them.
